The Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs of Seville (FEDEME) has joined the strategic alliance of Seville City One, Metropolis of Southern Europe, to promote Seville and its metropolis as an international benchmark in the industrial metal sector. This sector plays a crucial role in the economic development of the region and includes leading industries such as aerospace, automotive, metallurgy, renewable energies and metal construction.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed today by the President of FEDEME, Francisco Javier Moreno Muruve, and the President of the Seville City One Association, Pedro Salvador, in an event that underlined the importance of public-private cooperation to promote sustainable growth in the sector.
In this regard, the President of FEDEME stressed that “Seville and its metropolitan area have demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead key sectors at international level. Our metal industry is not only competitive, but also plays an essential role in the transition to a more sustainable economy’.
Commitment to the international positioning of Seville
For his part, the President of Sevilla City One pointed out that ‘the strategic alliance with FEDEME reinforces our commitment to positioning Seville as a benchmark metropolis for sustainable industrial development. This sector is a fundamental axis for sustainable development and the creation of quality jobs in our region.
The agreement, which aims to increase the international visibility and promotion of the metal sector in Seville and its metropolitan area, represents a decisive step towards consolidating Seville as a global benchmark, attracting investment and positioning itself as a driving force for innovation and sustainability.
Talking about Seville’s economy is inevitably talking about the metal sector, which is one of the most representative due to the wide range of sub-sectors and activities it encompasses, involving more than 9,000 companies and 83,000 workers, moving more than 14,000 million euros per year, contributing 34.6% of the GVA of the entire sector in Andalusia and 7.8% of the region’s total GVA.
FEDEME
The Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs, FEDEME, has been the employers’ representative of the entire metal sector in Seville since 1977, and is the oldest of the Spanish business organisations, having been founded before the CEOE itself.
The main purpose of FEDEME is to represent, manage and defend the interests of its companies before the administration and other public institutions, as well as to promote the maximum economic and social development of the metal industry.
Its members include large companies from the various sub-sectors that make up the metalworking industry, but it is mainly SMEs, especially micro and medium-sized enterprises with up to 250 employees, that make up the largest block of members.
The Confederation also represents companies in the negotiation of the four collective bargaining agreements for the metal sector in the province of Seville, and at the same time incorporates into its structure a total of 21 associations (provincial and regional), which in turn represent the interests of the various sub-sectors that make up the metal sector, including the automotive industry, the aeronautical industry, the metal-mechanical auxiliary industry, fitters, industrial assembly, mining, lifting, construction, the metal trade, petrol stations and manufacturers of machinery and capital goods.
