Spain’s leading electricity company joins forces with Sevilla City One, the metropolis of Southern Europe. Endesa is also one of the Silver Sponsors of this initiative, creating synergies with the project’s objectives.

Rafael Sánchez Durán, Endesa’s General Manager for Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla, points out that “it is essential to redefine the current model of our cities, based on the paradigm of “extract – use – discard”, and to rethink the way we use the resources necessary for our daily life and energy consumption. In this sense, cities, which occupy only 2% of the planet and are home to 60% of the world’s population, consume 2/3 of the planet’s energy. If we continue at this rate, in 30 years we will need 3 planets like the Earth to meet human needs”.

“From this perspective, and considering that the planet’s resources are finite and that cities have a leading role to play in achieving a more sustainable future, urban environments are presented as the only alternative to decoupling economic growth from resource consumption and environmental degradation,” adds Rafael Sánchez Durán.
